Bear Grylls New Show 'Get Out Alive' TRAILER; Survival Competition Premieres July 8 on NBC
Bear Grylls, known for such survival reality series as Man vs. Wild and Born Survivor will be hosting a new reality competition series on NBC.
The competition series Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls will be premiering on July 8 on NBC, featuring 10 pairs of contestants competing for a $500,000 grand prize.
The series takes place in New Zealand's South Island where the 10 teams of two will be forced to survive in the wild and complete various tasks. At the end of each episode, Grylls eliminates one team he feels is the weakest.
The location is expected to wear down on the contestants, according to the official NBC description.
"From dense forests and sheer mountain drop-offs, to freezing cold rivers and unforgiving glacier crevasses, the landscapes tackled will be harsh, remote and physically and emotionally draining."
The series' first trailer premiered on Thursday, featuring several shots of the contestants being pushed to their limits. The narrator explains, "20 ordinary people will attempt the extreme," while showing the contestants trudging through water, climbing steep mountains and swinging from ropes.
NBC revealed that the way the series works will involve each team "assigned a task to take charge of throughout each leg of the journey - including food, fire shelter and obstacles. This is not a race, but is a life-changing adventure to reveal the raw survival spirit needed to 'get out alive.'"
The cast includes several couples, parents and children and best friends. The trailer focuses on some of the older contestants, including one older woman, who says, "It's a chance to rediscover myself." An older man, competing with his daughter, says, "I always wanted to take a great adventure."
The show's production company, Electus, said that NBC has ordered eight episodes of the series "with additional creative details to be revealed at a later date."
This is NBC's second Survivor-style show to premiere this summer. They are also debuting the drama series Siberia, which involves a group of reality contestants dropped on a mysterious island.
Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls will premiere Monday, July 8 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
