Miley Cyrus has opened up more about her now boyfriend Liam Hemsworth after the two called off their engagement in 2013. She also spoke on how he couldn’t away from her even if he tried.

As for why they broke up to begin with, Cyrus is the one who pulled the plug.

“I had to,” she said during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show recently. “I don’t like when relationships are two halves trying to make a whole. So, I don’t think that I have that co-dependency. I think people that break up and get back together, that’s awesome. You get time to be by yourself. You get time to grow up. I think if yo’u’re growing up attached to another person, you never really get solid as your own being.”

The two first met on the set of The Last Song. They dated for four years and were even engaged at one point until Cyrus called it quits in 2013. Most fans remember that as her interesting twerking period. The two, who now live together, reconciled in late 2015.

Their breakup only led to a moment of serendipity.

“When Liam – he’s my boyfriend now – when we broke up for a minute, he wanted to get away from me,” Cyrus said.

She continued with how it wasn’t that easy for Hemsworth to “get away” from her. In fact, it was nearly impossible.

“He wanted to go to Malibu, and about this house,” she said. “He didn’t know it was the house I recorded my first album [‘Breakout’] in!” The person [selling the house] hid all the plaques in the garage so he would still buy the house. So then he went to move in and was like, ‘I cannot get away, [she’s] all over my house!’ And all my plaques everywhere.”

That also explains the inspiration behind her recent single Malibu.

“And so, now that we’re back together, my song ‘Malibu’ is about the house that I live in in Malibu, which is where I recorded my first album.”
