Don Lemon has reportedly received threatening messages via Twitter, and has now sought out legal protection.

The CNN anchorman filed a police report after receiving multiple, menacing messages on his social media account from a 'self-proclaimed' Trump supporter.

TMZ reported that the unnamed person allegedly sent direct messages to Lemon's inbox, calling him a: 'racist, communist, socialist, liberal moron'.

According to the Wrap.com, Lemon filed an aggravated harassment complaint on Wednesday, after the threats began on Tuesday.

"On Wednesday Oct. 25, 2017, the Midtown North Precinct took a report for aggravated harassment inside of 1 Time Warner Plaza (CNN). The 51 year-old male victim, an employee of CNN, was sent numerous threatening and anti-black messages to his Twitter in-box from an unknown individual. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing," a spokeman for the NYPD stated. The NYPD task force has also stated that they are 'investigating', this as it was a serious threat sent to Lemon.

Lemon received the messages after scolding President Donald Trump for his poor choice of words to widow, Myeshia Johnson, whose husband, U.S. Army Sgt. La David T. Johnson, was killed in Niger, with Trump reportedly stating, 'That's what he signed up for'. Trump has since denied he ever made said statement.

Lemon wrote an emotional open letter to the President urging him to reconsider his choice of words before speaking his mind. "Mr. Trump, please stop it. Please stop! Think of what Sgt. Johnson would want. You are putting his widow in the terrible position of having to fight for her dignity when she should be concentrating on taking care of herself, her health, her two children, and the one on the way," Lemon read while holding back his tears.

Lemon and Trump were on good terms back when Trump was running for President, but that quickly went south once Trump entered the office.

The controversial journalist has been known for his very opinionated thoughts and has never backed down from a confrontation. In 2009, Lemon was regarded as one of the most influential journalists of all time for his coverage of the AIDS epidemic and Hurricane Katrina.

However; in 2014, he was listed as the worst journalist of the year and in 2015, over 30,000 people signed a petition to have him removed from CNN.
