Tyler Christopher is once again a contracted actor with General Hospital, Soap Opera Digest reported Tuesday.

"It took us a few months to work out the details, but I signed last week," he said. "I'm really happy about it. I love the show and I'm having a great time."

Christopher originated the role of the brooding Greek prince, Nikolas Cassidine, in 1996. He played the role until 1999 and left the show to pursue other opportunities. During his absence, he married Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria in 2002. The couple divorced in 2004.

Nikolas was recast after Christopher left the role, but the 40-year-old once again took possession of his character in 2003. In 2011, it was reported that Christopher was fired by the regime at GH.

"Commitment, professionalism and performance doesn't get you anything," Christopher told Soaps In Depth in March 2011.

Christopher continued to rail against the top brass at GH for not being informed of the decision to let him go. He said that facts were misrepresented to suggest he wanted to vacate the role so that he could participate in the ABC series The Lying Game. He was ready to film both at the same time, but GH fired him without advance warning.

"I was told that I would not be signing another contract," Christopher said. "I didn't see it coming."

The character of Nikolas was written out of the soap opera that spring after he slept with former sister-in-law, Elizabeth. Christopher returned to the show in March as part of the show's 50th anniversary celebration. A major plot point has been the triangle between Nikolas, Elizabeth and A.J. Nikolas knows that A.J. slept with his ex Carly and may use that information to get Elizabeth back.
