It's official: hit sci-fi drama Travelers is now confirmed for a third season, which will be exclusively available on Netflix worldwide.

Created by Brad Wright, the popular television series is an all-Canadian production. It was commissioned by Showcase, Netflix was a partner and distributed the show outside Canada for the first two seasons, according to Deadline.

For its third season, Netflix is set to be the exclusive first-run distributor everywhere, including Canada.

Commitment To Canadian Talent

Travelers star Eric McCormack confirmed the renewal on Twitter. He is confirmed to direct the first episode of the third season.

"Before I was Will Truman again, I was a Traveler. And I am so excited to be able to tell our fans, worldwide, that Brad Wright's subtle and stunning sci-fi drama is back for a third season," McCormack says, adding his pride at the all-Canadian creation.

The cast and crew of Travelers hail from all over Canada, while the producers have roots in Toronto.

"I am counting the days 'til I return, not just as Special Agent Grant MacLaren, and as a producer, but as the director of the 3rd season premiere," he continues. "Travelers will continue to be unwavering in its dedication to Canadian talent, and in its drive to be one of the strongest, most binged shows on Netflix."

Executive producers Wright and Carrie Mudd from Peacock Alley Entertainment seconded McCormack's statement, adding their gratitude to Showcase for the past two seasons.

Travelers Season 3

With the second season airing just last December and the fresh renewal, the next season of Travelers is still quite a bit away. However, showrunner and Wright already has an idea of the storyline for the new set of episodes.

In an interview with The Televixen, the executive explains that the writers have worked hard on the third season and the team already knows where the story is going. Those who are dismayed at the end of the last season can take solace in the fact that Wright is telling fans not to lose hope on the characters.

Intriguing subject matters and new antagonists are in store for the fans in the upcoming season.

"The theme of Season 3 is AI," Wright says. "There's a lot of discussion of free will and AI and all of those things that we teed up in Season 2."

"We have an arc that introduces a new character, a woman, who is going to be a challenge to MacLaren," he continues. "I want to give him a foil. We're going to dial up the temperature a little more."

The third season of Travelers begins shooting this month in Vancouver.
