Martha Stewart admitted that she sympathizes with Paula Deen's situation on Watch What Happens Live Wednesday night.

While on the show, the 71-year-old mogul commented on a viewer's question about what she thought of Deen's racial slur scandal.

"I feel sorry for Paula Deen," Stewart admitted. "She's a public figure and I know you have to be extremely careful being a public figure."

Stewart herself received a lot of negative press in 2005 for her participation in a stock trading scandal. She served five months in prison for her involvement. Further explaining her feelings about Deen's situation, Stewart said, "I don't really want to say whether I agree with it or not, I just feel that you have to really watch yourself - especially in this day and age, with cameras all over you and Google . . . that'll be there forever."

Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen asked her if she agreed with Food Network's decision to cancel Deen's show, to which Stewart simply said, "No comment."

In addition to the Food Network firing, Deen has been dropped by many of her corporate sponsors over the past week, including Smithfield Foods, Caesers Entertainment and Walmart. It was also announced Thursday that Target would be ending their deal with the chef. QVC has been discussing terminating their relationship with her as well.

To make up for her lost deals, Deen hired PR crisis management expert Judy Smith on Wednesday. Smith has famously helped Monica Lewinsky, Michael Vick and other high-profile celebrities in hot water over the years. Her status as a fixer has become so well-known that she became the inspiration for the ABC drama series Scandal. Producers of the show have stated that Smith was the inspiration for the lead character, Olivia Pope.
