Adam Levine announced his engagement to Behati Prinsloo last week -- and reportedly decided to tell his ex-girlfriend the news, via a text message.

Instead of a formal phone call, Maroon 5 singer texted his ex Nina Agdal that he'd gotten engaged, a source told the NY Post.

A source told Page Six that Agdal was “heartbroken” at the engagement news.

He dated Agdal, who’s also a Victoria’s Secret model, for a short time after he split with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s Anne Vyalitsyna last year.

Now, The Voice judge, 34, and Prinsloo, 24 – who parted ways in late spring – are headed to the altar.

"Adam Levine and his girlfriend Behati Prinsloo are excited to announce they are engaged to be married," the rep said in a statement. "The couple recently reunited and Adam proposed this weekend in Los Angeles."

Speaking to ET Canada on Thursday, July 18, the model gushed that the ring is "perfect" -- as was the moment Levine popped the question.

"It was a one-knee thing!" she revealed. "It was serious, it was very old school."

As for the wedding? "[We're] just celebrating with our friends and family at the moment," she said. "I am so happy and excited and still can't believe it's true!"

"Behati is thrilled!" an insider told Us Weekly. "She knew that they were meant to be together."
