Inventing Anna, the new Netflix series that came out today is a true story, and the real-life Anna has some opinions.

The facinating, true-crime story goes as follows: Anna Sorokin posed as Anna Delvey. She managed to, through lies and deception, con her way into the lives of Manhattan's most elite. Sorokin is out of prision but currently remains in ICE custody for overstaying her Visa– even though the reason she overstayed was because she was in jail. She quipped, "Did I mention I'm the only woman in ICE custody in this whole jail? Tell me I'm special without telling me I'm special."

While she did sell the life-rights to her story to Netflix, she penned an essay for Insider in which she solidified her intentions not to watch the series. This in a big way comes from her current status– still stuck in the throws of a legal system she should have been out of a while ago. The con-artist eloquently wrote:

"For a long while, I was hoping that by the time "Inventing Anna" came out, I would've moved on with my life. I imagined for the show to be a conclusion of sorts summing up and closing of a long chapter that had come to an end. Nearly four years in the making and hours of phone conversations and visits later, the show is based on my story and told from a journalist's perspective. And while I'm curious to see how they interpreted all the research and materials provided, I can't help but feel like an afterthought, the somber irony of being confined to a cell at yet another horrid correctional facility lost between the lines, the history repeating itself."

Julia Garner, the actress who takes on the role of Anna in the new series, responded to this essay with ET. Taking on a person's likeness can be difficult. She spent a lot of time with Sorokin in creating the character, exclaiming that, "I wish there was a camera there because that was like a movie itself, in a way." Garner was never under any misaprehensions that the real woman would be watching the series.

"Here's the thing, I respect whatever Anna does in terms of whether she wants to watch the show or doesn't want to watch the show...That's her choice and that's totally fine. She doesn't have to watch the show...I never made the show in anticipation, thinking that she's going to watch it. If she did watch it, great. If not, that's fine, too. I respect whatever she wants to do."

Inventing Anna is currently streaming on Netflix.
