Star Trek actor Chris Pine brought all the swagger and gravitas one man could bring to the character of James Tiberius Kirk when he stepped into the role in 2009, a role made iconic by William Shatner back in the 60s. After two successful sequels, Into Darkness and Beyond, not to mention the ill-fated Quentin Tarantino installment, which sadly never can to fruition, fans have been clamoring for another spin with the crew of the USS Enterprise. Between the cast coming and going due to lack of information and a lack of a script, the future of the cinematic end of the franchise has been in a virtual black hole.

But worry not, sort of. In an interview with Variety, Chris Pine, who was busy promoting All The Old Knives, shared a small ray of hope for a Star Trek 4. The only issue. No script.

Evidently, the cast sent a text around about being back on board, though they haven't exactly been made privy to the plot.

"I think everybody was like, "Did you hear about this?" [Laughs]. We're usually the last people to find out, but I do know we're all excited. Whenever they want to send us a script, we're ready for it."

When asked about the story, he continued,

"We haven't seen a script. I don't know anything about it."

Pine joked when confronted with the idea of signing on to a film with no script,

"I don't trust anybody, but I'm excited. I love the story. I love "Star Trek." I love my people."

Given the built-in fan base, the slew of spin-offs being produced on Paramount+, and the glowing track record of the property, I doubt this will be the last time we see Pine in the Captain's chair. For now, it's just waiting to see what happens. Heck, Star Trek 4 has already been given a release date of December 22, 2023, so there's hope.
