Earlier today, Apple TV+ released the first dramatic trailer for their bilingual Spanish-English drama "Now & Then." Starring Rosie Perez, Manolo Cardona, Marina de Tavira, José María Yazpik, Soledad Villamil, and Maribel Verdú, among others, the show is created by Ramón Campos, Teresa Fernández-Valdés, and Gema R. Neira, the team behind Spanish-language hits, such as "Velvet," "Cable Girls," and "Gran Hotel."

Instead of a story centered in Spain, "Now & Then" takes place in Miami, Florida this time. Apple's description for the show reads: "'Now & Then' is a multi-layered thriller that explores the differences between youthful aspirations and the reality of adulthood, when the lives of a group of college best friends are forever changed after a celebratory weekend ends up with one of them dead. Now, 20 years later, the remaining five are reluctantly reunited by a threat that puts their seemingly perfect worlds at risk."

In the beautifully shot trailer, we see the tragic incident that started it all, and Perez's obsessive detective Flora as the force that might upend these friends' lives due to her determination to solve this 20 year-old case. Meanwhile, her enterprising partner Sullivan, played by Željko Ivanek, has to help keep Flora in check. Dramatic music plays in the background as we're left with a compelling shot that switches from the characters' younger selves standing behind a coffin to their current-day selves standing behind the same coffin.

From what's been revealed, "Now & Then" is the latest iteration of those stories where characters are unable to escape their dark pasts, as their grownup selves are dragged back into the mess they started. "Pretty Little Liars" and even "It" come to mind, though "Now & Then" seems definitely a bit more somber and gritty than either of those titles.

However, despite the dramatics, the bilingual characters of "Now & Then" add a touch of realism to the show, and addresses a long-needed representation that decentralizes English as the primary language in an American series. With these interesting innovations, we're looking forward to what this Apple TV+ series has to offer!

"Now & Then" premieres on Apple TV+ on May 20, 2022 with the release of the first three episodes out of eight total episodes. The remaining episodes will drop weekly every Friday through June 24th.
