After news last year about Jenny Han serving as co-showrunner to the TV adaptation of her novel "The Summer I Turned Pretty," we now learned that the YA romance author has now inked an overall deal with Amazon Studios. Han, who was previously best known as the author behind "To All the Boys I've Loved Before," the smash-hit Netflix film, will now create and develop new projects for Amazon.

Han first started working with Amazon when she became the co-showrunner and an executive producer on "The Summer I Turned Pretty," which is being adapted into an eight-episode series. The Hollywood Reporter described "The Summer I Turned Pretty" as "a multigenerational story that centers on a love triangle between a girl, Belly, and two brothers. The coming of age story also touches on the relationships between mothers and and their children, the enduring power of female friendship, first loves, first heartbreaks and the magic of a perfect summer." The series stars Lola Tung as Belly.

In a statement in the Hollywood Reporter, Han said, "Adapting my novel The Summer I Turned Pretty into a television series at Prime Video has been an incredible experience, and I'm so thrilled to now expand my relationship with them. I've been telling stories for as long as I can remember, first on the page, then onscreen, and now I'm delighted to start this new chapter: creating and championing stories about coming of age at every age for Prime Video's global audience."

Han's transition from Netflix to Amazon, where "To All the Boys" helped usher in a slew of teen romance flicks during a time when studios believed romantic comedies to be dead, signals Amazon's intent to join the trend and cash in on the popular genre. Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke revealed as much when she said, "Not only is Jenny Han a beloved and best-selling author, but she has also brought her voice to screens around the world, speaking to her fans with an authentic voice that inspires, moves and entertains her huge and growing fan base."

We're looking forward to seeing what new YA romance stories Han will bring to Amazon as the tech giant seeks to find a foothold in the streaming wars. For more entertainment news and commentary, check out Enstarz! We bring you the latest on your favorite celebrities, TV shows, and films.
