Dear Gaten Matarazzo: 'Stranger Things' Star to Join the Broadway Cast of 'Dear Evan Hansen' As Jared

Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo is set to take on the role of Jared in the Broadway run of the Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen. 

Dear Evan Hansen is one of the most emotionally heartfelt musicals that has come to Broadway in some time. The show follows the story of Evan Hansen, a shy kid who, through a series of misunderstandings, finds himself in the center limelight of not only his high school, but of the world. (Yes, we are keeping that summary as vague as it can be as to not ruin a single moment of this fantastic show.)

The role was originated by the incredible Ben Platt on Broadway back in 2016. Now, several variations of the cast later, Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo is set to join the incredible cast, in the role of Jared.

Jared is Evan Hansen's best friend (or, "family friend," as the character is quick to clarify.)

Matarazzo has not been on Broadway since his appearance in Les Miserables back in 2014. He is incredibly excited to make his return. The actor shared in a statement:

"Words could never express how truly honored I am to be a part of this company...This show has taught me so much about myself and to be able to participate in any capacity, let alone on Broadway, makes me want to melt. I am ecstatic to be back on stage and eternally grateful for the opportunity."

This announcement comes the same week as Stranger Things is getting ready to release their penultimate season. 

It is fair to say that these are two incredibly different worlds. We can't wait to see Matarazzo explore the ever changing world of Stranger Things on May 27th and the social media-ruled modern day musical Dear Evan Hansen on July 19th.
