In reaction to J.K. Rowling receiving death threats on Twitter, Warner Bros releases statement to defend the author in light of freedom of expression.

The "Harry Potter" author took to Twitter to share her thoughts regarding the recent attack on Salman Rushdie, when netizens proceeded to respond with death threats. Rushdie's assault in New York had been dubbed as "an attack on freedom expression". "Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok." the 57-year-old author had tweeted regarding Salam Rushdie, to which a netizen responded with "Don't worry you are next". Rowling then mentioned Twitter support about her concern in a separate tweet.

Shortly after, the author tweeted her gratitude to fans who sent her supportive messages, adding that the police were now involved and investigating other threats she received.

In lieu of the exchange, Warner Bros, which owns the rights to Rowling's "Harry Potter" franchise, expressed that they stand with the author and that the studio "strongly condemns any form of threat, violence or intimidation when opinions, beliefs and thoughts might differ."

In their statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the film production company expressed their stand: "We stand with her and all the authors, storytellers and creators who bravely express their creativity and opinions. WBD believes in freedom of expression, peaceful discourse and supporting those who offer their views in the public arena. Our thoughts are with Sir Salman Rushdie and his family following the senseless act of violence in New York." Warner Bros stated.

Rowling's literary agency also expressed their support for Rowling as Chairman Neil Blair shared his thoughts on the series of threats: "I believe in freedom of speech and stand in firm solidarity with J.K. Rowling and all writers against any threat of violence. My thoughts are with Sir Salman Rushdie and his family at this time."
