'All-star Weekend' Cancelled? Jamie Foxx's Unreleased Film Gets 'Indefinitely Shelved'

Ever wonder what happened to Jamie Foxx's unreleased film from six years ago? It turns out that "All-star Weekend" has been confirmed canceled by public demand.

The "Spider-Man: No Way Home" actor expressed his initial plans and excitement to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2018, saying that the world of Comedy "needs a movie like All-Star Weekend".

The 54-year-old actor's supposed directorial debut, "All-star Weekend", was first announced in 2016, and targeted for release around the season of the 2018 NBA All-Star Game. True to its name, the film had cast a star-studded casting which includes Robert Downey Jr., Eva Longoria, Gerard Butler, Benicio Del Toro, and more.

In a recent statement to Cinemablend, Foxx, unfortunately, announces that the six-year in-the-making film will be indefinitely shelved for reasons undisclosed.

"Man, it's been tough, with the lay of the land when it comes to comedy, man. We're trying to break open those sensitive corners where people go back to laughing again." The director stated.

Canceled by Social Media Trial?

Movieweb suggests that "All-star Weekend" may have been put on hold because of the cancel-culture nowadays, since Jamie Foxx's statement of trying to "break open those sensitive corners" may be a hint at that reason. 

"All-star Weekend" is about the story of two best friends who win tickets to the NBA All-Star game. However, the twist is that they will first go through a group of bizarre characters along the way, including Robert Downey Jr. as a Mexican man and Jamie Foxx playing multiple roles including, allegedly, a racist, white police officer. We may not know a lot about the film now, but the premise certainly sounds like something that'll make it on today's Twitter thread.

While the status of the film may be unfortunate, and the enthusiasm for the film has somewhat diminished now, Foxx states that he still has hope of the film getting released and accepted someday.

"The one thing we kept hearing in the screenings was how much people were laughing." Director Foxx explained. "So, hopefully we'll keep them laughing and run them into All-Star Weekend, because we were definitely going for it."

Fortunately for Foxx, his recent vampire action-comedy film "Day Shift" has risen to Netflix's top 10 charts since its release on August 12.
