Hilary Duff, who rose to fame on the Disney TV show Lizzie McGuire, announced that she will reprise her music career.

"I'm going to focus on my music. It's been a long time coming. I think I'm finally buckling down and getting in the studio," she said in an interview during the July FIJI Water Days of Summer Event in New York.

The last time Duff released music was in 2009 when she appeared on the song Any Other Day from the What Goes Up soundtrack. The 25-year-old put out her debut album Santa Claus Lane in 2002, and her sophomore album Metamorphosis hit stores in 2003 and peaked at No. 1 on Billboard. One year later, she debuted a self-titled album, and her most recent record came in 2007 with the release of Dignity.

In the interview, Duff explained her decision to return to music.

"I really miss touring," she said. "I really miss connecting with my fans in that way."

Aside from recording, the star is also finishing up her latest film Flock of Dudes. The comedy is expected to open in theatres in 2014 and also stars Ray Liotta, Whitney's Chris D'Elia, New Girl's Hannah Simone and The Hangover Part II star Jamie Chung. It will be Duff's first film since 2012's She Wants Me.

"It's an independent movie," she said. "The title pretty much says it all. It's so wildly inappropriate and funny and hilarious, and the people that I'm working with are really talented and amazing and it's hard to keep a straight face on set."

During her musical hiatus, Duff also focused on her personal life. She began dating Canadian hockey player Mike Comrie in 2007, after they met at a resort in Idaho. In 2010 they got married in a small ceremony in Santa Barbara, Calif, and two years later they welcomed their first child.

"Welcome to the World Luca Cruz Comrie! Tuesday evening, we became proud parents of a healthy 7 pound 6 ounce beautiful boy," Duff tweeted.
