Reason For New Generation 'SNL'

The comedy reality show creator, Lorne Michaels, initially teased what's in store for the upcoming season in a past interview with Entertainment Weekly. According to Michaels, they will be adjusting to the changes to the show in the 48th season, considering the new generation of cast members.

"This will be a transition year, and the change years are always difficult but also really exciting because there's new people and things are changing and a different generation comes into the show," Michaels explained.

During the past interview, Michaels had already teased four unnamed new hosts that were set to star in their comeback.

'SNL' Founder On Mainstays' Exit

"Saturday Night Live" founder Michael Lornes told Entertainment Weekly about the latest cast changes on the show and addressed the recent departures ahead of the 48th season.

Lornes attributes the mass exits to the ongoing pandemic, and how it affected the dynamic amidst their growing NBC family through the years.

"I think people might've left earlier, but there was no place to go, and also, we were used to doing it, and we were under pressure to do it," Michaels explained to EW. "It was difficult, particularly when you're rehearsing in masks and it's all protocols and there's nothing to do after the show except to go home.

The NBC late-night series is set to return to its 48th season on October 1st. Additionally, the former Hulu mainstay also switched its streaming to Peacock.
