Jennifer Lawrence appears on VOGUE's annual best-seller for the September Fall Fashion Issue.

In the story, the 22-year-old Oscar winner spoke about her decision to appear in the Hunger Games film franchise and why she choose to work with director David O' Russell again for the upcoming film American Hustle.

The Kentucky native said she could relate to her Hunger Games character Katniss Everdeen. She said her experiences in the aftermath of Winter's Bone success and the process of gaining notoriety and becoming a celebrity felt strange and made her feel like a "puppet." This helped her connect with Everdeen.

"When Winter's Bone was getting nominated. I had only done indies, and suddenly I was introduced to this brand-new world where I didn't feel like myself," Lawrence told VOGUE. "I was in these weird gowns and listening to people talk about things I didn't understand. And I remember reading that in the book and being like, Oh, my God, I know exactly what this feels like."

Lawrence also explained how her evolution into mainstream Hollywood correlated with her character's awakening in the film's sequal.

"I don't know what it's like to get ready for your death, but I do know what it's like to be almost a puppet," she explained. "And then when I was making the second film, I had become more acquainted with that world, and I think that's something that Katniss experiences. She is different when she comes back. She does feel more comfortable in the Capitol; she understands the people more, and it's not as eerie and scary and unfamiliar. She kind of knows how to work the system."

Later in the interview, Lawrence revealed why she chose to work with screenwriter and film director David O' Russell for a second time. She last worked with Russell on 2012's Silver Linings Playbook, which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Russell wrote the part of Rosalyn Rosenfeld, an alcoholic Long Island housewife just for the actress. She said the part was so well-written she turned down a vacation to work with the director.

"Rosalyn is 100 percent a product of David's imagination,' Lawrence said. "She's a manic, depressive alcoholic and I couldn't wait. Plus, I got to make out with Christian Bale. I couldn't say no. And then when I was on set, I was like 'This is much more important than a vacation.' It's so much better for my brain to be creatively stimulated in this way, it reminded me: 'This is what I love.'"
