JoJo Siwa took back what she previously said about "starting a new genre of music called gay pop."

In an exclusive interview with TMZ outside Studio Siwa in Los Angeles on Wednesday, the 20-year-old artist clarified that her previous statement in her Billboard interview was misunderstood.

"I am definitely not the inventor of gay pop, for sure not. But I do want to be at peace in making it bigger than it already is," she said.

"I want to bring more attention to it. I am not the creator. I am not the president, but I might be like the CEO, like CMO, chief marketing officer. I am the CMO of gay pop," Siwa further explained.

She also acknowledged the music legends who came before her "who have made gay pop," including Elton John, Madonna and Freddie Mercury, among others.

This clarification comes after the "Karma" artist talked about gay pop and what it meant to her in a Billboard interview a few days ago.

"I said it back in the day when I first signed with Columbia, I said, 'I want to start a new genre of music. It's called gay pop," she told the interviewer.

"It's like K-Pop but it's 'gay' pop. There's a newer style of dance... Songs like 'Applause' by Lady Gaga, 'On My Own' and 'Can't Be Tamed' by Miley Cyrus, and 'Karma.' It's that world of music, not necessarily pop. It's giving you Lady Gaga's 'Judas.'"

Shortly after, she received backlash from the netizens for her statement. Twins and pop duo Tegan and Sara, who identify as queer, made a reaction video on TikTok, and it showed them raising their brows and giving JoJo side eyes.

JoJo released the "Karma" music video last Friday. It is reportedly a part of her full rebrand from her kid-friendly persona.

In the MV, she gets up close and personal with female dancers, performing sensual choreography and provocative scenes.
