Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, emerged as the most nominated film of the year, earning 16 nominations, a historic tally for the Oscars. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Wicked: For Good was one of the ceremony's biggest snubs, receiving no major-category nominations, including the expected nod for Ariana Grande in Best Supporting Actress.

Latin American cinema enjoyed one of its strongest Oscar performances in recent memory. The Brazilian film The Secret Agent secured four nominations, while Brazilian cinematographer Adolpho Veloso was recognized for his work on Train Dreams.

Among the acting categories, the first Latino nominee announced was Benicio del Toro, who earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actor, alongside Jacob Elordi, Sean Penn, and Stellan Skarsgård. One of the biggest surprises in that category was the inclusion of Delroy Lindo for Sinners, a performance praised by critics but absent from many prediction lists. His nomination left out Paul Mescal, who had been considered a frontrunner for Hamnet.

In Best Actor, Timothée Chalamet made Oscar history by becoming the youngest male actor ever to earn three acting nominations. This year alone, he received two nominations: one for Best Actor for Marty Supreme and one as a producer, as the film is also nominated for Best Picture.

One of the most talked-about snubs was Guillermo del Toro's absence from the Best Director category. Still, his film Frankenstein was among the most nominated of the year, including a Best Picture nomination.

For the first time, the Academy introduced the Best Casting Achievement category. One of the surprises in this category was The Secret Agent, which was also, as expected, nominated for Best International Feature Film.

Spain also secured a key presence this year. The Spanish film Sirat earned a nomination in the International Feature Film category, reinforcing Spain's growing visibility within the Academy.

Another positive moment for Latin American representation came with the inclusion of Brazilian actor Wagner Moura among the Best Actor nominees.

Music fans were disappointed when Shakira was not nominated for her song featured in Zootopia 2. The film itself, however, did make the shortlist for Best Animated Feature, though it is widely viewed as a long shot against K-Pop Demon Hunters.
