Robert Duvall, the Oscar-winning actor known for "The Godfather" and "Tender Mercies," passed away at the age of 95 on February 15. His wife of 20 years, Luciana Pedraza, shared the news with fans, revealing that his sudden health decline surprised even close friends and family.

An insider told Radar Online that despite Duvall's advanced age, he had been active and energetic, enjoying tango, travel, and riding horses across his 360-acre Virginia farm.

"Something is going on because, despite his age, Robert had been acting like someone HALF his age – until recently," the source said. "He's a tango enthusiast who loved to dance up a storm and travel extensively with his wife to do so."

The source noted that Duvall's lifestyle, including previous smoking and certain eating habits, had been surprisingly resilient but added, "Considering his eating habits and previous smoking, he's done pretty well. But now he's suddenly gone off the scene. The general feeling is that his body just gave out."

Friends reportedly grew concerned when Duvall became less visible in public. "But, then, he suddenly dropped out of sight," said a second insider.

"Many of his friends are on pins and needles, concerned that it may be because he's suffered a major problem." The source suggested the actor may have wanted privacy regarding his health but hoped his friends could remind him how beloved he was in Hollywood.

After a brief slowdown in acting following alleged health issues, Duvall appeared in "Widows" (2018) and later in "12 Mighty Orphans" (2021) before completing his final roles in "Hustle" and "The Pale Blue Eye" in 2022.

He had expressed mixed feelings about aging but cherished his time with Pedraza. "I don't know if I love any of it, but day to day with my wonderful wife," he said in 2021, per People. "She takes care of me, and I have good friends, and try to work out and keep in some kind of shape."

Duvall's death marks the passing of one of Hollywood's most enduring and versatile actors, whose career spanned decades of iconic performances.
