Dream Theater premiered the video for its song The Enemy Inside, ahead of its album release, on Billboard on Sept. 23.

The progressive metal band will be releasing its new self-titled album with Roadrunner Records on Sept. 24. This will be the band's 12th studio album. A concert film, Dream Theater: Live at Luna Park, opens in theaters on Monday, Sept. 23.

The band released two songs from the album, The Enemy Inside on Aug. 5 and Along for the Ride on Sept. 9.

The video for The Enemy Inside deals with themes of war and was directed by Bill Fishman, who has worked on videos for the likes of the Ramones and Steve Ray Vaughan before.

Guitarist John Petrucci spoke to Billboard about the making of the song:

"At the time we didn't envision it being a single or a video. It just was kind of like this song that was in the technical vein that we love to do," he said. He added that the lyrics "grabbed a lot of people that heard it right from the beginning."

"So not only within the band but at Roadrunner, a bunch of people said, 'Wow, I really like that particular song.'" Therefore, when it came time to decide which song would introduce the album, The Enemy Inside was one choice on everyone's list," he said.

Petrucci also discussed the inspirations behind the song and the video, saying that when he was writing the song the Boston bombings had just taken place. The song also deals with issues of post-traumatic stress disorder, which is common among soldiers returning from war.

"Also at the time that we were in the studio working on the album and I was writing lyrics, the Boston Marathon bombings happened. There was a lot of discussion of terrorism and PTSD as if affects people who witness traumatic events like terrorism, so it was just very on my mind. It linked very well with the mood of the song, and as we started to get into it, I watched some documentaries and things like that. I was like, 'This is really something that needs to be written about,'" he said.

The album was recorded between January and May at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, N.Y., with Petrucci producing. The new album is also the first to feature the band's new drummer Mike Mangini.

Dream Theater will tour Europe beginning in January and plans to play North American dates beginning in March.
