Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon teamed up yet again for a comedy skit to shed light on an epidemic that has plagued social media and phone users for years now: the overuse of hashtags.

The pound sign -- once used to only relay phone numbers and when prompted by an automated recording -- is now found on every single social network, in and text communication. The Hollywood duo, and real life good friends, displayed how the sign overrides the spoken English language.

Timberlake and Fallon recreated a normal human conversation but with the ridiculousness of hashtags hastily appended to every statement. They tackled a number of subjects including, Duck DynastyOrange is the New Black, Barney, Cookie Monster, Ice Age, Ray Romano, Halloween, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mona Lisa. The conversation started with the singer offering the late night talk show host some cookies.

"Hey, check it out i brought you some cookies. Hashtag homemade, hashtag oatmeal raisin, hastag show me the cookie!" Timberlake said.

"Sweet! Hashtag don't mind if I don't. It's pretty good, hastag get my cookie on, hashtag I'm the real cookie monster, hashtag [he made a chewing sound]." Fallon replied.

The pair also got to singing parts of Miley Cyrus' song We Can't Stop and Missy Elliot's Work It. The bit ended with The Roots singer Questlove coming in the room and telling the two friends to quiet down.

The complete skit debuted on Fallon's talk show Tuesday night. That same night, Timberlake performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live and on Monday he was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
