News of the 55-year-old cheerleader Sharon Simmons has been sweeping the web. She has made headlines this week by revealing her ambition to become audition for the famous Dallas Cowboys Cheerleading squad.

Simmons, who is a grandmother, revealed that she had always wanted to be a cheerleader, but waited three decades to fulfill her dream.

"I thought about this when I was about 22 years old. I was a single mom, and I wanted to do it," she said, according to Inquisitr. Now she hopes to become the oldest cheerleader in the NFL as she prepares to audition along with ladies half her age. Referring to her older age than her fellow competitors Simmons said, "I don't see a number... If I do, it's just a number. It's not that I can't keep up with [younger women] in the physical part of the training."

How does she stay so fit at her age?

Simmons had previously written a book in 2009, titled: "Triple F: Fifty Fit and Fabulous.". The book provides a basic plan for a healthier lifestyle. In it, she shares the secrets for success at being fit at any age without the use of drugs or fad diets. "Being fit is not just for the young, it is for the young at heart," the description reads.

In her Amazon biography page, she is described as a "National Fitness Competitor and Champion, Author, Actress, RE Professional, Master's Degree, Mother/Wife, and Grandmother. Loving Life!"
