Katy Perry has a big month coming up between a Saturday Night Live appearance and the release of her first record in three years.

The pop star stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday to talk about her new album and to play a little game of Taboo. However, the singer first had small fangirl moment over the musical guest of the night, Brian Wilson.

"[Wilson's] Pet Sounds is one of my favorite records and influenced pretty much all of my song writing," Perry said excitedly. "All of the melody choices I make are because of Pet Sounds."

This weekend, Perry will be performing on Saturday Night Live. Although she hosted once in the past, the 28-year-old will not be participating in any sketches this time around. That doesn't mean Perry isn't a fan of comedy, though.

"All of my heroes are girls that have either been on SNL or have been a part of SNL like Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Kristin Wigg, Amy Sedaris," Perry explained. "I just love self deprecating woman who can kind of make fun of themselves and it's not all about them and their nice lighting."

As for her own work, Perry describes the upcoming Prism as a more grownup version of her extremely successful Teenage Dream.

"Teenage Dream and it was supper high concept and almost kind of cartoony. I think the difference [Teenage Dream] and [Prism] is that it is more vulnerable and raw and striped down," the singer said. "It's an evolution. It is three years later and a bit more grownup but still having lots of fun."

Prism will hit stores on Oct. 22.
