New reports suggest that computer giant Apple will be selling its latest Macbook Air for just $799. DigiTimes reported that sources from Apple's supply chain said the ultra think Macbook Air will launch at the end of the third quarter of this year with an alluring $799 price tag.

The price markdown, which is $200 less than the current Macbook Air,, although completely unconfirmed, may come at a time when Intel is aggressively producing its Ultrabook brand of thin laptops. The Ultrabooks are expected to go on sale for just $699 - but the cheap price tag means cheap materials.

However, if rumors are true and Apple does slash the price of its Macbook Air, then Apple is expected to dominate the market of ultra thin laptops - as the iPad dominated the tablet market.

The current Macbook Air range starts with a $999 price tag. It is offered in both 11 and 13 inches.

It is not known when the exact specs of the new Macbook Air will be released, or if it will be launched at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in June.

Meanwhile, the Macbook Pro 2012 is expected to be released some time in June. The new range is expected to come  with a cool SSD boot drive and the optical drive will be replaced with a bigger battery which should provide battery life that can potentially last for days.
