Sean "Diddy" Combs was mistaken for Kanye West at Art Basel in Miami on Wednesday, Dec. 4, New York Post reported.

Former Museum of Contemporary Art Director Jeffrey Deitch, who is also an art dealer and collector, walked up to Diddy at the event and said, "Hi Kanye..." He quickly realized his mistake and an eyewitness recounted what happened.

"[Jeffrey] looked absolutely mortified. There was a moment while everybody held their breath, then Diddy burst out laughing," the source said. "He took it really well."

The art collector further explained the case of mistaken identity in an e-mail to Page Six.

"There was a big crowd gathered at the entrance to an art fair booth. I asked the dealer what the commotion was about and she said, 'Kanye is here.' I could only see the person from the back, and went over to say 'Hi Kanye'. To my great embarrassment, it turned out to be P. Diddy. He thought it was very funny, especially since we had spent several hours together visiting my street art show in Los Angeles."

West was at the Art Basel as well, accompanied by fiancée Kim Kardashian. They went to a art display on Miami Beach and also brought along their daughter North West. Kardashian shared a photo on Instagram of the infant alongside famed artist Jeff Koons.

Kanye appeared at Surface magazine's Design Dialogues to discuss art, architecture and design with architect Jacques Herzog, moderated by the Serpentine Gallery's Hans-Ulrich Obrist. The rapper described himself as "considered to be prodigy at age 14 in Chicago" and talked about his youth as an artist, attending art school, before he realized that "my paintings were music . . . I would paint music because I could see it."

Do you think Diddy and Kanye look alike?
