Shia LaBeouf pushed boundaries to work with top director Lars Von Trier on Nymphomaniac.

The actor said as his first test to get cast in the film, he had to email pictures of his penis to production.

In a video interview with Zentropa Productions released Monday, Jan. 7, LaBeouf revealed how he first learned about the film and the odd request he had to comply with in order to be considered for the role of Jerôme.

"The first info we got-and I'll never forget this because my entire team reacted with such a fear-the first request on the production end, not from Lars, but from production, was pictures of my penis," he said.

LaBeouf added that he believed the request was a test to see if he would be able to handle the film's content.

"I guess the first test was 'Let's time how long is takes this mother f---er to send his d-k over the Internet,'" he said. "It was like 20 minutes, so they were like, 'All right, kid's ready.' "

LaBeouf's character in the December 2013 film about a woman's past sex addiction was unlike any he had taken on in the past.

"He's a very insecure man, he's a very vain man, and he's a very small man," he said of Jerôme. "Not physically, but small in his abilities to empathize with other."

Talking about getting prepared for the role, LaBeouf said, "The way into the character, you ask yourself, what about you is pugnacious, what about you is vain, and you turn it all up. You amplify all of it. I became quite physical. I became like American Psycho."
