Though the series finale isn't set to air until March 31st, the final scene of How I Met Your Mother has already been filmed.

In fact, according to a new CBS News report, the show's final moments were actually taped eight years ago.

Series co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas shared that they always knew they wouldn't reveal the exact details of how Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor/Bob Saget) would meet the titular character of 'The Mother' until the final episode, and decided in the show's early years to include the couple's two kids (portrayed by David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca) in the final scene.

However, because the kids are not supposed to age on the show, (the story spans nine years, but does not take that long to tell), the creators realized they would have to film the final scene earlier on because the actors would grow up as time went on, and wouldn't look the same as they did in the show's first season.

They have since revealed that when the show was in its second season, Fonseca and Henrie were brought in to film the two-minute scene, and signed non-disclosure agreements that would swear them to secrecy.

Though the rest of the cast will wrap filming for the finale on Feb. 28, the previously-filmed scene is still ready and waiting.

"It's been the plan all along," Thomas said. "What you see on March 31 has been the plan. We leave the series with a certain message that we wanted to convey."

Meanwhile, news has broken that the spin-off series, How I Met Your Father, which will begin airing in the fall, had cast Fonseca as the lead character.

It is unclear if her character will be the grown-up version of Ted's daughter in the current series, or if she will continue the tradition of telling her children how she married their father.
