Edgar Wright is out as the director of Marvel's Ant-Man, and James Gunn will not be taking his place.

'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Trailer Music Pulled From Star-Lord Tape, To Be Played Throughout Marvel Film?

Following Wright's departure from the long-gestating film, rumors that the Guardians of the Galaxy director would be stepping in as his replacement began to populate the Internet. While Gunn has voiced nothing but respect for the breakup between the comic book studio and the British filmmaker, the Slither writer has adamantly denied the recent gossip.

"I haven't been asked and couldn't do it, and wouldn't do it, just like I wouldn't have sex with my friend's girl ten minutes after they broke up," Gunn commented on Facebook on Saturday.

'Ant-Man' Movie Loses Director Edgar Wright, How Will This Affect The Story?

Earlier on Saturday, Gunn explained Wright and Marvel's split from his point of view.

It's easy to try to make one party "right" and another party "wrong" when a breakup happens, but it often isn't that simple," Gunn wrote. "Or perhaps it's even more simple than that - not everyone belongs in a relationship together. It doesn't mean they're not wonderful people. And that's true of both Edgar Wright and Marvel. One of them isn't a person, but I think you get what I mean."

Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters on Aug. 1, and Ant-Man is still slated for a July 17, 2015 release.
