The Mentalist's Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon have confessed their love for one another, but the series may not start season 7 in the immediate wake of that announcement.

After Red John's death, the CBS series proved it is far from wary of making major time jumps. Two years past between Jane's ultimate revenge and his reappearance, and Stabley Times believes writers could throw fans into another time warp when season 7 begins.

The site posits that The Mentalist may seek to quickly advance the Jisbon relationship. Instead of watching Jane and Lisbon navigate the awkward first few months of their now extremely close partnership, Stabley believes the series could advance the story much farther into the future and portray the couple as they try to keep their aging relationship afloat.

However, this is purely speculation. Considering the program is not slatted to return until 2015, confirmed details about the new season have been few and far between. One thing that is known for sure, however, is how worried the cast is in regards to losing momentum now that Jisbon fans have received what they want.

"It's the whole Moonlighting theory that comes into play with long-form TV," Baker told TV Line. "It goes on, and sometimes on and on, and do you give the audience what they want, or do you keep the flirtation and tease going? Is that really what they want, is that what they like - to want something? Because as soon as you seal any sort of a deal with anything, it's like, 'Well, that's that, and from there where do we go?' There are plenty of places always to go, but it's a risk and a challenge."
