Casey Kasem's Wife And Kids Battling Over Funeral Arrangements?
The private service will be held by Kasem's three children with first wife Linda Myers, Kerri, Mike and Julie, and will be open only to family and close friends.
"[Casey's kids] Kerri, Mike and Julie Kasem will holds a private memorial service for family and friends on Saturday," Kerri's rep said.
To ensure the ceremony stays private, the location is being kept under wraps.
It is currently unclear whether Casey's wife, Jean Kasem, will be attending the service. She and his three oldest children had been feuding in recent months over his care, with his children winning their case against her just days before his death.
His children and wife of 33 years have been engaged in the battle over his care since October of last year, after Casey signed a health directive in 2007 which not only gave his daughter control, but requested he not be kept alive by artificial means. The battle became news after Jean reportedly no longer allowed Casey's children with first wife Linda Myers to see their father, resulting in a massive protest outside his home. The case took a bizarre turn when his children reported him missing in May, after he had been moved by Jean from a Santa Monica nursing home and was found one day later at a friend's home in Kitsap County, Wash.
Just days before his death, a Los Angeles judge reversed an earlier decision that allowed Jean to continue caring for Casey and gave Kerri the authority to have doctors end his infusions of water, food and medicine, after his doctor concluded that continuing the artificial nutrition and hydration would only "at best prolong the dying process for him and will certainly add suffering to an already uncomfortable dying process," Kerri's lawyer, Troy Martin said after the June 11 ruling.
Casey, who not only hosted America's Top 40 but also voiced several television characters including Shaggy on Scooby-Doo passed away on Father's Day. He was 82.
