Was Cristiano Ronaldo's new haircut just a weird 'do or was it actually something more meaningful?
New rumors on Twitter speculated that Ronaldo put the zigzag pattern into his hair for Sunday's World Cup game against the United States to honor a young child with cancer.
The haircut reportedly was a sign of solidarity with Erik Ortiz Cruz, who underwent brain surgery earlier this year. Ronaldo paid for the brain surgery for young Cruz.
In March, Ronaldo heard that Cruz's surgery would cost £50,000 and the soccer star offered to pay for the entire thing. Cruz suffers from cortical dysplasia, which caused him to seizure up to 30 times a day.
Although Ronaldo may have paid for the boy's surgery, no confirmation has been made by the Real Madrid star that he shaved his head in a pattern for him, too. According to Yahoo! Sports, Ronaldo doesn't comment on his charity work.
Ronaldo may have a soft spot for kids since he has a son of his own. Ronaldo's son Cristiano, Jr. was born in 2010 to the soccer star and reportedly an American woman.
Ronaldo has been dating model Irina Shayk since 2010, as well, when the reportedly met at a photo shoot. Although Shayk isn't his son's mother, she certainly seems to be a mother figure. The Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl has accompanied Ronaldo and his son to many public events, including the 2013 Fifa Ballon d'Or award ceremony in January 2014. When accepting the award with his son, Ronaldo thanked his child and Shayk, saying, "There are no words to describe this moment."
