Simon Kinberg has a lot of universes he is controlling nowadays, namely Star Wars and Fantastic Four, but his staple franchise will always be X-Men and with X-Men: Apocalypse on the way, he has his hands full with keeping up with the great response Days of Future Past received.

Writer Simon Kinberg Talks 'X-Men: Apocalypse' And How X-Men Is Getting Even Bigger

Speaking with Latino Review recently, Kinberg outlined what he hoped to see villain-wise in Apocalypse, especially with the giant scale that he and director Bryan Singer are planning.

As of now, the planned villain will be Apocalypse, who was teased in a post-credits scene during Days of Future Past, an ancient mutant with giant powers. There will also be the Four Horsemen who follow Apocalypse, who are characters Kinberg and Singer are working hard to get just right.

But one name popped up that could be somewhat surprising to fans who have enjoyed the series since its inception in 2000: Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

During the interview, Kinberg was asked if Jackman would be returning, and in what capacity, to which he replied he was always willing to have Wolverine in the movie.

"I don't personally have a contingency plan for him leaving the franchise because I can't imagine him leaving the franchise. I'm building these movies just as I assume I have Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, I have Hugh Jackman as well," Kinberg said.

"So until he literally calls me from the hospital and says 'I can't do it anymore' I will continue to put him in these movies."

So with Jackman in tow, does that mean he will also join the other mentioned actors as one of the heroes, or will the always disgruntled mutant turn rogue?

During an interview with IGN, Jackman sounds like he is excited about the future of the character and thinks he could go a different direction with it.

"At one point, you're right, I said I was pretty sure. But I'm less sure as it goes along. Because after seeing this movie, the whole thing feels fresher to me than ever," Jackman said.

"And during this movie...I don't want to spoil anything, but it's kind of like a clean slate, so who knows where it's going to go. As long as I have the passion for it, and the fans will have me."

Could Wolverine turn to the dark side? If he does turn dark, it would seemingly be something where he isn't really a villain, but someone with different motives than the X-Men. Either way, it sounds like an interesting movie for the franchise to take with its biggest star. But a move that could make for an interesting story arc.

X-Men: Apocalypse has a planned release date of May 27, 2016.
