Extant has movie star, Oscar winner, and former Catwoman Halle Berry starring in the project, but that hasn't been enough to keep the ratings from dipping after the series premiere.

First Teaser For Extant Released

Due to this fact, on Monday TV Line reported that CBS has decided to move the show into a different time slot in an attempt to goose the ratings.

The first three episodes aired Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m., and now the show will air an hour later, following a rerun of Criminal Minds. Earlier this summer, CBS moved their new show Reckless to air after Unforgettable, and then both shows saw their ratings improve. The hope here, presumably, is that this move will have a similar positive impact on Extant.

Halle Berry Starring In CBS' Extant

The network is wasting no time making the chance, as it will begin with this week's episode, the fourth in the show's 13 episode season. On the show, Berry plays Molly Woods, an astronaut who returns from a 13-month solo mission in space inexplicably pregnant. While the show began with 9.58 million viewers, its third episode was down to 6.48, which is not an insignificant drop.

Given the big name leading the project, one might think that the network was hoping Extant could be a big summer success. So far, that doesn't seem like that is going to be the case, but maybe this change will help. Then again, if a network is relying on reruns of a crime procedural to give the ratings of the sci-fi show a boost, it could be in trouble.
