The Modern Family actress's act invited a lot of criticism from various publications stating that Vergara was put on display for the viewers's pleasure. But Vergara lashed out at the critics.

"I think its absolutely the opposite. It means that somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself," she said. "I think it's ridiculous that somebody started this-I know who she was-who has no sense of humor [and should] lighten up a little bit."

Here are a bunch of criticisms the Emmy moment received:

"The moment's unsavoriness, presenting a successful actress as nothing more than a body to ogle, was compounded by its timing; accepting the award for best variety series moments earlier, Stephen Colbert thanked his 'one woman' writer." -- Salon

"She was treated like a literal object." -- Jezebel

"A very troubling turn." -- Huffington Post

"I love @SofiaVergara but did anyone find that schtick somewhat offensive?" -- Katie Couric

"In fairness, Sofia Vergara always seems incredibly game for this stuff, but still. Just: no. #Emmys" -- Linda Holmes, NPR

"Perhaps concerned that the Emmys hadn't filled their quotient of "ironic" sexism and/or racism, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences President Bruce Rosenblum presented the usual spiel about the missions of the Academy (and, by extension, the Emmys), boiling the whole statement down to the importance giving everybody something to watch." -- VOX
