How Olivia Benson Will Change In 'Law and Order SVU' Season 16

Although there's no William Lewis drama this season, Det. Benson doesn't have an easier time since she is a new mom to baby Noah. She may also have to deal with the possibility of "something terrible" happening to Noah. "She really has to focus now on protecting someone else, and putting herself in a situation where nothing terrible will happen to her."

Show runner Warren Leight shared last week about Benson with TVLine, "Last year, she took enormous risks in her pursuit of William Lewis; from now on, she's aware there's an infant at home entirely dependent on her."

It was also revealed Friday that Peter Gallagher is joining the cast of the NBC show. E! News reported the actor will be joining the show in a recurring role as Deputy Chief William Dodds. He is reportedly "charismatic" and the "tough-as-nails" boss of all special victims units in New York City.

He will also be Benson's boss. Law and Order: SVU is set to premiere Wednesday, September 24 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
