Although he wanted to keep mum about his unexpected split with Jordin Sparks, Jason Derulo released a statement to silence false reports.

"Though I think it is a private matter and intended to keep my break-up [with] Jordin personal, due to bogus and irresponsible lies being reported by insensitive media outlets it became necessary for me to comment," Derulo, 25, told ABC News. "I spent three great years with Jordin and she is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met. But as in all relationships there are ups and downs and at this time we have decided to amicably part. Infidelity, cheating or deceit played no part in our relationship or our break-up, and I hope that people respect our privacy as we move forward with our lives."

Derulo, who publicly praised the fellow singer for being there for him during his almost fatal accident in 2012, also posted the statement on Instagram with the caption, "My thoughts..."

Sparks, 24, has yet to release a lengthy statement, but her message on Twitter alluded to the breakup.

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened," the American Idol alum tweeted on Friday.

The couple started dating in 2011 and was very open about their love for each other, often posting adorable photos together on social media. Sparks was even featured in Derulo's romantic video for Marry Me, which hinted that they planned to tie the knot in the future.
