It has been a hectic week for Spider-Man as the hero has been teased to be heading back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to join the Avengers, but would Andrew Garfield be the actor playing the hero in that crossover? A new report suggests otherwise.

Spider-Man Could Be Joining The Avengers Very Soon

Bada-- Digest reported on Tuesday that Sony may be losing a grip on their Spider-Man property and could be headed for another soft reboot of the character, which would leave Garfield out and a new actor in, with that person being revealed during Sinister Six.

This seems like a drastic move for a studio that just recently rebooted the character in the form of two new movies and director. But it seems like with the poor reception to the past two movies, both commercially and critically, not to mention a lack of interest in their cinematic universe built around the character, it could mean they will try to start over again.

Venom Could Lead The Charge Against Spider-Man In The Third Movie

Garfield already talked about Spider-Man being involved in Sinister Six, but it would make sense to have the hero show up.

The role wouldn't have to take up the entire movie, as it would mainly focus on the villains and their origins, but it would create some fun fight sequences and allow fans to see Spider-Man in action and not worrying about the other politics that have bogged down the other movies.

Another plan the report says Sony may consider is waiting four to five years to bring back Spider-Man and trying to build the universe around him with Sinister Six and the female-led movie that has been rumored. It added that the Venom movie, directed by Alex Kurtzman, is theoretically dead.

There is no word as to if Garfield would still be in the plans for Sony during the waiting plan, but it would seem unlikely with the actor getting older.
