The Walking Dead is back on AMC Sunday and even the stars can't wait for the show to be on the air. One of the stars Norman Reedus even called Season 5 the strongest year for the hit show.

Andrew Lincoln Reveals Rick's Beard Means Something Important On 'The Walking Dead'

"The writing this season is our strongest writing for sure," Reedus told E! News Thursday about The Walking Dead Season 5. "This year is bananas, it is so, so much fun."

Reedus even said he thought the first scene in the premiere on Sunday wouldn't even make it into the show because it was "so gruesome." According to costar Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Reedus says that every year. "I was like 'oh yeah you're right,'" Reedus remarked.

'The Walking Dead' Returns With New Characters After Show Renewed

But, what is Reedus excited about for his beloved character Daryl? "Just the development of his character, for all the characters," he said. "None of these characters are the same people they used to be in the first episode, so there's a lot, there's a bunch of good stuff. We come flying out of the gate the fifth year."

Previously Lincoln had told Time Magazine the show would be "darker" this season.

"The thing I'm more interested in, certainly this season, is the human factor," Lincoln said. "We are moving into a much more terrifying and psychologically scary landscape because the people that inhabit this world now, after two years, are either very dangerous, very pragmatic, or very organized, or all three. That makes for very interesting drama."
