George Clooney, who played Batman/Bruce Wayne in the much-maligned 1997 film Batman & Robin, has gone on record and apologized for playing him. Addressing a crowd at New York's Comic-Con on Thursday, he said, via ScreenRant:

"I think since Batman that I've been disinvited from Comic-Con for 20 years. I see the comment sections on all you guys. I just met Adam West there [referring to behind the NYCC main stage] and I apologized to him. Sorry about the nipples on the suit. Freeze, freeze, I apologize for that."

Ben Affleck's Batman Could Be A 'Step Ahead' Of Christian Bale

As he referenced in his apology, Clooney's Batman donned a suit with nipples, which has been openly mocked by both fans and non-fans of the Dark Knight.

Clooney's apology comes amid the persistent buzz for Affleck as he dons the Batsuit for Batman v Superman. The casting of Affleck was heavily criticized and joked about by Internet commenters. It remains to be seen if Affleck's performance will be as mocked as Clooney's or if it will be another solid performance to join the ranks of Christian Bale, Michael Keaton and even Val Kilmer.

Affleck's costars in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice include Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, butler to Bruce Wayne.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled for release in theaters on March 25, 2016.
