Though he has boasted about Ryan Gosling's chemistry with former girlfriend and The Notebook co-star Rachel McAdams in the past, their former co-star James Marsden is still supportive of the actor's romance of Eva Mendes-and is even dishing out advice to the new parents of a one-month-old daughter.

James Marsden Hints He Prefers A Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams Reunion?

In an interview while promoting his star turn in the newest Nicholas Sparks film The Best of Me, Marsden was surprised to learn Gosling had become a father, but didn't hesitate to share advice based on his own experiences.

"Make it through the first year!" he joked. "You'll get your sleep eventually. You go through those sleep-deprived months where you don't know who you are and where you are, or what's happening. But just enjoy every second of it I guess."

Everything We Know About Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes' Baby

Marsden went on to explain why he believed the 33-year-old actor would make a good father.

"He's a good man, he's very intelligent and he seems very in tune with his young self," he said. "He has a band and he sings with a children's choir. He's a very talented musician and very gifted guitar player and vocalist."

Gosling and Mendes, who have been dating on and off since meeting on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011, welcomed a daughter, Esmeralda Amada Gosling, on September 12.

And though Gosling beat Marsden to a starring role in a Sparks film, Marsden did beat his former co-star on the path to fatherhood. He and former wife Lisa Linde have two children together, Jack and Mary James, and he is also the father of a son, William Luca Costa-Marsden with former girlfriend Rose Costa.
