It has been a trait that has worked for Marvel with James Gunn and Scott Derrickson coming from the horror genre to directing a superhero movie, but could the director of one of next year's biggest action movies move to superheroes next?

Who Will Be In The Line-Up For 'Justice League Part 1?'

Deadline reported on Tuesday on the new deal that New Line worked out with and how Fast & Furious 7 director James Wan would be affected by it. New Line president/CCO Toby Emmerich talked about how they will continue to mine horror directors for the next big thing.

"New Line has always been a big believer in great filmmakers emerging from the horror genre, and he has the potential to grow like Frank Darabont did, from writing A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 to writing and directing The Shawshank Redemption," he said.

Jason Momoa Says 'Justice League' Is Coming Before The 'Aquaman' Solo Film

"James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He's the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one."

Wan was recently linked to take over The Conjuring 2 after he finishes work on Fast & Furious 7, but could a superhero movie be next? That is what the comments seem to outline.

As of now, Zack Snyder is locked down with Batman v Superman and both Justice League movies attached to his name. The only other director linked to the DC universe is David Ayer, who will be taking on Suicide Squad.

Wan could be a name that the studio is looking at for Wonder Woman, Aquaman or Shazam (which would star his Fast & Furious actor Dwayne Johnson). He has shown that he can create movies that bring in the masses, as The Conjuring did, and Fast & Furious 7 could be the catalyst to putting Wan at the front of DC's plans.
