With the massive Marvel announcements made on Tuesday, the universe is set up for some monster changes when Phase 3 gets started with the third Captain America movie. But are these changes setting Iron Man up to the a villain?

Marvel Making A Big Reveal Today In Secret Event?

While it wasn't news that Robert Downey Jr. would be joining Captain America 3 to play an integral role in the Civil War that would begin in the movie, it looks like the anti-hero could strain some relationships even before that in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

In brief moments in the new trailer, Tony Stark is seen talking about having to finish what he started, which most likely is linked to him creating the villain Ultron in the movie, and leads to Thor lifting him up by his neck. Clearly tensions are high between the team and they could get worse depending on what happens in that movie.

An Oscar For 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier?'

With Stark and Steve Rogers split on what to do with the superhero registration act that will dominate the story in Captain America 3, it seems like that tension will carry over and lead to even more problems between Stark and Rogers (remember the tension they had in the first Avengers movie?).

This seems to be setting up Iron Man as the bad guy, because his character is able to endure that. Stark has never been the nicest person, and luckily for Downey's charm, he has become somewhat likable.

But this is also a bold move for Marvel who is turning their most popular hero into the scapegoat and villain of the movie. But it also signals a changing of the guard with new heroes like Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and now Black Panther showing up in the movie, meaning Marvel knows they are making Iron Man bad, but there are others to take his place.

Captain America: Civil War comes out May 6, 2016.
