'The Dark Knight' Director Speaks Out On What He Thinks Of DC Universe

According to The Wall Street Journal last week, WB and DC Comics was determined to bring Christopher Nolan back to the comic book genre with Justice League and the following Batman reboot, which would star Ben Affleck. The director declined the offer and is not involved in any way with the upcoming DC universe.

"Retaining Mr. Nolan for its key franchises has been a top priority at Warner," the site claimed.

Is This Picture Evidence Of Aquaman Showing Up In 'Man of Steel' To Save Superman?

"One of the reasons its slate of DC superhero films have rolled out more slowly than rival Marvel's comic-book movies was the studio's lengthy pursuit of him to produce a 'Justice League' film and 'Batman' reboot. He declined, though he did produce last year's Superman movie 'Man of Steel'."

Timeout Chicago spoke with Nolan, who still has a respect for the superhero genre, but clearly is not looking to go back any time soon.

"I think I had a great experience with the superhero genre and got to explore a lot of things," he said. "But it was a good decade of my life and I find it hard to imagine returning to it. But never say never."

Zack Snyder is tasked with taking on both Batman v Superman and Justice League: Part 1 right now. There is no set date for the Batman standalone movie, but a positive reception to Affleck's take could push a date up soon.
