As the tenth anniversary of Saw was recently celebrated, the team behind the thriller series gave strongly suggested that an eighth instalment is in the works.

Director James Wan dished about the future of the franchise in an interview with IGN, on the occasion of the movie being re-released around Halloween, on October 13, in theaters to mark a decade since the first in the series was made. While the director spoke about the movie, his experience making it, and its "pop cultural staying power," he also hinted at some possibly exciting news for fans if the gory series.

When asked if there was hope for Saw 8, the director was quite optimistic.

"I will say this: never say never again. [Laughs] Sean Connery made a movie about that, actually. You know, I think the Saw universe, the Saw brand, is too big to just let it just sit there on a shelf. I'll say that much."

Then, in a recent interaction with fans promoting Insidious Chapter 3, Leigh Whannell, who collaborated with Wan on the Saw series, also addressed a question about his involvement with Saw 8. Whannell co-wrote Saw with Wan, and the 10th anniversary of the movie was recently celebrated. His reponse was slightly noncommital.

"No, not involved at present but would be involved as producer," Whannell said.

Another report from earlier this year, also suggested that the movie might have a release date for spring 2015, which seems highly unlikely, but still adds credibility to the fact that Saw 8 might be getting made after all.

SchmoesKnow had a trusted source, Daniel J. Heffner, co-producer of Saw and Saw II, reveal that another film in the series might be released in spring 2015.

"Because of the competition in theaters in October, they're changing the game plan. If all goes well with Lionsgate, they expect to have Saw 8 ready for a Spring release in 2015," he said.
