Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) finally got married on Monday night's episode of ABC's Castle, and the series will continue to examine Castle as a character in the weeks to come.

Katic spoke with TVLine in an interview posted after Monday night's episode, discussing the wedding and how everything ties in with the season as a whole.

"Well, I think that's the theme of this season - the show is focusing on Richard Castle," Katic said in discussing the Season 6 finale cliffhanger that set Castle in the middle of a mystery.

"And I think the specific focus of this season is what happened to him during those two months, but also what happened to him that inspired him to become the novelist that he is," she added, saying that she thinks the show's writers wanted to re-mythologize the story," particularly for Castle, since "for so long he just seemed like the 'Nothing is ever wrong or bad' guy. It's nice because it'll give that character and Nathan an opportunity to add some layers to it. I'm looking forward to seeing what they end up doing with it. It'll be fun."

Katic admitted that the vows Castle and Beckett shared in the episode were very sweet and that it would likely be a "letdown" for fans if they had skipped them.

"I think it was romantically written, and sweet the things they said to one another."

Castle airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
