Despite being the actress behind the most fascinating character on television in 1990, Twin Peaks actress Sheryl Lee has not had an easy life in the wake of the show's success.

Lee played Laura Palmer in Twin Peaks, the homecoming queen who was famously "dead, wrapped in plastic" in the show's first episode, causing almost everyone in America to wonder "who killed Laura Palmer" when the series first aired.

Despite the popularity of Twin Peaks both in 1990-91 and nowadays, Lee hasn't exactly had it easy. In fact, in a new interview with London Evening Standard, she revealed just how difficult her life has become.

"I've had to sell everything for financial reasons," Lee revealed. "From the age of 40, I went through illness for four and a half years. I tried to keep working through it as much as I could, but I was physically not able to do it as much and if you look sick it's hard to get a job."

Lee even had to resort to selling some Twin Peaks souvenirs in order to support herself financially. She said that she currently lives in a guest house on "somebody else's ranch."

Despite everything, Lee still wants to "watch my son grow up. I want to spend time with my family. There's a lot of the world that I want to see and experience." Lee's son Elijah is 14.

Lee has apparently not been asked to appear in the Twin Peaks revival in 2016, according to the report. Considering how iconic the character of Laura Palmer is, however, there is still hope that Twin Peaks creators David Lynch and Mark Frost could bring her back for at least a cameo appearance.

Twin Peaks is set to return to television in 2016 on Showtime, though the network has not announced a premiere date yet.
