Matthew McConaughey has been out this month promoting Christopher Nolan's sci-fi drama Insterstellar, but that doesn't mean fans have lost interest in his turn as Rust Cohle on HBO's True Detective.

"I loved Rust Cohle," admitted the actor after being asked about the role during a recent Interstellar interview with Digital Spy (featured below). "That was five and a half months of me sort of living on an intellectual island. He was such a loner, but I really enjoyed it."

While many viewers struggled to wrap their heads around Rust's ideas and philosophies, McConaughey insisted that actually playing the character was very relaxing and enjoyable.

"It was relaxing to stay in Rust Cohle's mind," said McConaughey. "I really loved what he had to say. I love how his mind worked."

McConaughey elected to only star in one season of the popular crime drama and though he doesn't regret the decision, he does "miss" playing that character.

"I really enjoyed that whole series and I watched it like everybody else," he noted. "I watched it every Sunday night for eight weeks and I miss it. My wife and I both miss it. We really enjoyed True Detective."

Colin Farrell (Minority Report, Saving Mr. Banks) and Vince Vaughn (Into The Wild, Wedding Crashers) are set to star for the hit program's second season, though an actress for the female lead has yet to be confirmed.

True Detective returns to HBO for a second season mid-2015.
