Rumors have swirled this week as to what the role that Christoph Waltz in Bond 24 could be, but could he be channeling a classic villain in a new version?

James Bond To Play Detective In The Next Movie?

Cinema Blend speculated on Wednesday as to what the nature of Waltz's role could be in Bond 24 and they decided that the Austrian actor could be playing a classic Bond villain: Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

According to the site, bringing SPECTRE and Blofeld back into the fold would not only draw older Bond fans, it would also offer a nice through-line into the next actor that takes up the Walther PPK. Imagine it: Bond is presumed dead on Craig's last op against Blofeld and his crew, only to come back in Bond 26, fresh faced and ready for action.

These Two Characters Will Be Potential Bad Guys In 'James Bond 24'

Ernst Stavro Blofeld ran the criminal organization SPECTRE, a shorthand acronym for "Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion." Blofeld's organization was behind the evil plots showcased in Dr. No all the way through to Diamonds Are Forever.

In the course of those seven films, James Bond was foiling Blofeld's underlings left and right, until he finally took the fight to Blofeld himself in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

It would fit in the comments that have been made by Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig about bringing a more classic feel to the next movie as they look to go back to the basics. It also would be incredible to watch Waltz in action in the role for possibly two movies to establish what could be his best villain since Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds.

Bond 24 comes out Nov. 6, 2015.
