Even though rumors were floating around that this classic villain could be making a comeback, it still seemed unlikely. Now it looks like we know who Christoph Waltz is playing in the new James Bond movie.

Christoph Waltz Could Play This Classic Bond Villain In 'Bond 24'

The Daily Mail reported on Saturday that Christoph Waltz will be playing classic Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in Bond 24. The actor joined the cast last week and most speculation has been circling a return of this character.

The character has been seen before in the Bond films with Blofeld had previously featured in From Russia With Love in 1963, and in 1965's Thunderball, but the character's face was not shown and only his lower body was visible as he stroked his white Angora cat.

James Bond To Play Detective In The Next Movie?

The villain made his last appearance in 1981 when he featured in For Your Eyes Only.

According to the site, Waltz will be announced during the first week of December as a principal cast member for the movie with the actor slated to play an unknown character called Franz Oberhauser, son of the late Hans Oberhauser, a ski instructor who acted as a father figure to Bond.

But The Daily Mail added that their sources believe the casting is a bluff and that Waltz is actually playing Blofeld.

One Hollywood source, who asked not to be named, said "Christoph Waltz is playing Blofeld in the next Bond film. The tone of the 007 films has changed significantly in recent years and the producers have changed the character to fit in with the new-look 007."

This could be setting up for a multi-arc battle between Waltz and Daniel Craig as the latter actor heads into the final few movies of his career within the franchise.
